Laszlo Hanyecz is a Bitcoin developer who has been working on Bitcoin since 2010. Hanyecz was the first person to port it to mac, and is responsible for some bug fixed, but what he is really known for is buying two pizzas for 10.000 bitcoins in 2010.
The pizza was a very important event in Bitcoin’s history because it was the first time anything physical was paid for in Bitcoin. Before the pizza bitcoins were trading and had monetary value, but nobody had actually ever bought anything with them. The purchase showed the community that bitcoins could actually be used as means of exchange.
Hanyecz is still involved in the community and using Bitcoin, even though he has said that he did not buy back the 10.000 bitcoins that he used to pay for the pizzas. Earlier this year he paid for two pizzas using the Lightning Network, Bitcoins new solution to increase the capacity of the network.
Lazlo has also had a lot of correspondence with Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of Bitcoin. We don’t really know who Nakamoto is, but reading about Hanyecz’s correspondence with him gives us a better idea of what kind of person he was. Hanyecz described him as an “oddball”, and stated that Nakamoto would email him asking him to fo fix bugs. You can read more about Hanyecz statements about Satoshi here .
